Week 6 of Flag Football 2019

Week 6 was championship week for the Shield Bearers Flag Football League (SBFFL), with every game vying for a medal. The 6:30 games at both levels featured two teams playing for 3rd place. Winner would get a medal, the loser would go home with only memories of their season and thoughts of what could have been. Here is the link to the Gallery.

The Mini’s division pitted the Dolphins versus the Packers. The Dolphins took a commanding lead in the first half and looked to run away with the medal. The second place featured a comeback for the Packers who used their momentum to take the lead! The Dolphins took the lead back to secure the win. In the final moments the Packers defense came big and ran a pick 6 to the house for the tie, and then put in a 2 pointer to seal the win! WOW! With an electric finish, the Packers won the 3rd place medal in the Mini’s Division.

The Junior’s division pitted two prolific aerial offenses in the Steelers versus the Sea Hawks. The offenses traded touch downs, the defenses made key stops, and in what seemed like a nail biter of a half resulted in a 14 – 14 tie. The second half came and saw more of the same, both teams making amazing catches and heart breaking defensive stands! The game ended in a 21 – 21 tie, which meant… OVERTIME!!

After 2 tries from each team, the Steelers scored their winning point on their 3rd attempt and won a thriller of a game, 21 – 22, to secure the Bronze with their First win of the season!!

After an amazing finish to both games, all eyes focused on the Championship games at 7:30.

The mini’s saw the undefeated Giants take on the Red Hot Chiefs! Both Offenses were on fire, and both teams remained balance with strikes through the air and on the ground. After a close first half the Giants showed why they are undefeated and pulled away with a 33 – 14 win, winning the Gold and leaving the Chiefs to settled for the Silver.

The juniors saw two equally balanced teams that relied on team defenses and misdirection in their offenses to get to the first place game. The Saints hosted the Falcons for the 1st place game. The Falcon’s struck first with two long runs and quickly got the momentum. The Saints retained their cool and struck back with a long run of their own. The two teams traded scores once more before the Saints made a key stop and scored right before halftime, making the score 20 – 14 at the midpoint.

Both teams came out motivated on defense and made defensive stop after stop. Eventually a couple of scores leaked through and the Saints took command of the game with a 32 – 20 lead, ending the game with their version of a victory formation and earning a Gold Medal win!! The Falcons would have the silver to help alleviate their sorrows.

What a finish! An AMAZING day of games fitting for an amazing season. Congratulations to our new champs, the Saints and Giants!
