The term Shield Bearer can be defined in many ways:

With that in mind we feel the name suits us because our purpose is to serve the GHS Football Athletes who are the young minds that will be one day be at the front lines of our community.
Our team mascot is the Mighty Spartan and the shield was the foundation upon which Spartan Warfare was built on. We will be there to help bear the shields of our young Spartans.
